MARIE RIVIER - WOMAN APOSTLE

Marie Rivier’s soul was ablaze with love and zeal.  Her compassion and tenderness transpired through her gaze as well as her personality.  Her own words:  “I have a mother’s love for you…” betrayed the deep affection she held for every one of her daughters and for every one of the children in her care.

The whole color scheme of this painting attempts to convey this blazing love and tenderness.  Her all-embracing and all-encompassing gesture reaches out to all nations in her zeal to extend the kingdom of God throughout the world and throughout the ages.  It is no wonder that Pope Pius IX proclaimed her the “Woman Apostle” in 1853.
