Bethany House is more than a residence for the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. The two sisters who reside there are both committed to serving the needs of persons with disabilities. They provide advocacy and transportation services. These services are important in the lives of people and families with disabilities. The sisters are motivated by the belief that the services they provide truly promote the well-being of those they serve.
Sr. Pauline provides services for deaf persons and their families. Deaf persons have their own culture and communicate most often by using American Sign Language (ASL). The deaf community is a community of unique beliefs, customs, experiences, identities, and stories and their needs have to be met. Sr. Pauline is an interpreter for Catholic Masses, Religious Education Classes, and Sacramental Preparations for deaf children and adults. This service has really helped people in the deaf community to become more self-confident and faith-filled. They in turn have become leaders and evangelizers in their respective religious and secular social circles.
Sr. Jeannine provides transportation for those in need. There are several elderly and handicapped people in desperate need of getting to doctors’ appointments, to shopping centers, to worship services. Sr. Jeannine enables those who would otherwise be stuck at home and gives them peace of mind and heart at the same time. “Put your gifts at the service of one another, each in the measure that he or she has received.” |
